The Dark Part of Shading

Illustrated by Katrina Gacgacao

The machine-style type of examinations must be abolished for the good of the students. Many are having a hard time coping with this new way of exams.

The main purpose of this shading is for the students to get used on standard tests just like in Universities and Licensure Examinations. But, there were some flaws on making this decision.

First of all, the students are taking Quarterly Exams, these will not affect their future like it does on Licensure Exams. Some teachers say that there would be a possibility of the test papers to be a guessing game. In the end, not only do the students fail, but the readiness for future standard tests are not achieved.

Second, the students weren't properly oriented about this shading. Some will be likely to make mistakes on writing their information. They have a right to know why they are doing this.

Lastly, some of the shaded parts aren't read properly by machines. Some of the teachers make the students do a separate copy to double-check the consistency of the machines. The management should have made sure that the machines are very accurate before they use it.

The sudden change of examination style is a big shock to the students and teachers alike. But since it is already there, students must make the most of it. Take the tests seriously, get ready for the standard examinations.
