English Department concludes National Reading Month with a bang
Last November 25, 2016, the English Department wrapped-up the National Reading Month with their contests-filled culminating activity that was held at the school quadrangle amidst the moderate rain.
With the theme “Today’s Readers: Inclusivity in Diversity”, students from different grade levels battled it out in different categories. Three judges graced the event: Ms. Marnelli Bautista, Division Schools Program Supervisor in English; Mr. Ryan Orpiada, SK chairman of Brgy. Corazon De Jesus; and Mr. Joseph Roberts, President of San Juan Rotary Club. They took on the challenge of sorting the best among all the contestants in different activities.
The categories that the students competed for were the following: Christmas Chorale Contest, where participants rendered a choir presentation of a Filipino Christmas song; Poetry Singing, where contestants applied their own melody on the classic poem “The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepperd”; Speech Choir Competition, where students gave their own take on Edwin Markham’s “The Man with a Hoe”; and Musical Play Competition, where groups displayed their acting and singing skills taking on different Broadway pieces. In the end, the following sections took home these recognitions:

2nd Runner-up - 7 Sampaguita
Musical Play Competition: Champion – 8 SSC classes
1st Runner-up – 9 SSC classes
2nd Runner-up -- 7 SSC classes
3rd Runner-up – 10 SSC classes
Winners from the different preliminary contest during the early part of the month were also recognized. First placers from these contests are as follow:
Spelling Contest - Ernest John Marquez of 8-Diamond
Poster Making - Samantha Jade Robiego of 7-Rose
Logo Making Contest - Nomerajoy Acob of 8-Diamond
Essay writing category - Jamielle Saguindan of 9-Sun
Winners from the group contests received a trophy and cash incentives while those from individual contests each received a medal.
Prior to all these the English Department also had an exhibit that displayed the impressive works of students from grade 7 to 10 covering all their literature and grammar lessons as well as those from the Deutsch class.
