The League of Legends Community Throughout the World
“Computer-games are today’s man’s bestfriend.”
League of Legends – a well-known continuously-growing Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) was established 7 years ago by an American video game developer Riot Games. The game is so wide spread even the Filipino “Gamers” embraced the game.
Internationally, the game is so prominent that they, (Riot Games) funded many tournaments and games all over the world that were held at some of the Earth’s well-known arenas & domes. League of Legends was a really big deal for the International ‘Bigfish’ Gamers namely from North America all the way to South Korea and it became a sport or presently known as, e-Sports. The game was created because of the decision of Mark ‘Tryndamere’ Merill & Brandon ‘Ryze’ Beck to split themselves from another world-famous game DoTA (Defense of The Ancients). They started from scratch, but amazingly, many gamers from the States played it and they became positively addicted at the game.
Locally, when the game was released, few Filipinos favored the game; the people are still into DoTA. But as the years go by, and the crave of new games started to rise, gamers found LoL, at one point of the initial years of discovering LoL, Philippine e-Sports team ‘Philippine Eagles’ joined the tournament way back Season 3 but the team didn’t had the chance of entering the world’s biggest e-Sports tournament “Worlds”. This tournament at first was just held at some local arenas & sports center. But today, as the game grows hugely, the “Worlds” tournament is being held at some world famous arenas. Also, the tournament has a huge pool prize for the winning team, way back 2011, the prize pool was ranging from 99,000 USD to 100,000 USD! Last 2015, the prize pool was ranging from 1.1M USD to 1.2M USD! In the upcoming “Worlds 2016” this October, 16 teams will be strained at the Staples Center at LA, USA. That has a pool prize of 2.1M USD!
The game produced one of the best gamers from the best gaming teams that sprouted around the continents of the world. Lee Syang-hyeok or “Faker” is considered to be the God gamer of the League. Enrique Cedeno Martinez or “xPeke” is the most priced & decorated professional player of the said game. The greatest team to compete was SK Telecom 1 from South Korea, Fnatic from EU, Team Solo Mid from North America and RNG & Edward Gaming from China.
Videogames, this may be cliché to hear, are not helpful & doesn’t give any benefits for the players/gamers. But the League has many benefits for its fans and teams that continuously join at the tourneys Riot Games conduct.
