Too Hungry to Act Proper?
The canteen is a place where you can eat and energize yourself. Most people would agree that the canteen is one of the most important parts of school life. A large proportion of students eat here daily since they are not allowed to go outside during break time nor take their snacks inside the classroom.
Students are always in a hurry when they are buying. During break time, the canteen is always crowded and the students tend to be impolite when talking with the canteen personnel. They show these behaviors because they are in a hurry and they think that they will be late for their next class so they fight their way amongst the other students who are also buying. Some are so hungry that they forget to act properly. They would go talking in chorus that’s why the canteen people get confused.
It is also troublesome that the canteen is not closely regulated and supervised by the concerned personnel such as the teachers or a discipline committee just to make the students feel that order must still be enforced even outside the classroom. Break time can be chaotic and this spills over into classes because some students come late and some even prefer to continue eating even during class.
School administration and canteen committee must implement canteen rules to enforce queueing and good behavior in the canteen. The presence of the principal or teachers will control or lessen the negative behavior of the students. These measures will lessen shouting, bullying, fighting and sometimes even extortion of money from younger students.
Also, because of the size of the canteen we have, a more thorough scheduling may help if it will be studied carefully. At the moment grade levels are scheduled separately so as to control the number of students entering the canteen at the same time, but still it isn’t enough.
The canteen contributes to the holistic development of students as it offers rest. It reflects a positive school climate so it is a must that the canteen is always organized and clean especially in cases where school visitors decide to drop-by and need to buy something from it.
